Guilt-Trip is a concept smartphone app aimed at consumers who wanted to take control of their carbon footprint. Using the smartphone’s GPS and various clever algorithms, the app would run in the background and automatically detect travel events and calculate the carbon footprint of each. Users would then be able to offset all, or selected journeys. Users could also choose which carbon offset projects their money would go to and also be able share their offset journeys and other data via social media.
The app was featured at the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference in 2011 as an example of how technology can aid in combating climate change.
